Subject title: Joseph's Sketchbook

haha, is that a ''candle holder'' holding an egg? That's indeed something strange to have to have laying around your desk. I really like the (what seems like) hand painted still life.

Keep up the good work.

Haha, thank you both! Maybe I should explain.
I am a college art student and that egg in a candle holder was one of my first projects!

What I'm working on right now. Will probably ask for a critique on it soon in the critique section. But until then, open to suggestions.

I found some files on my old computer that were kind of hilariously bad. So I decided to quickly do the draw this again thing. Quite a transformation. I purposefully kept some of the more interesting decisions like the long nose and red hair and... orange eyes?

I made this poster in a night for my friend for Christmas using some bad photobashing. It's purposefully kind of awful.

Painting I'm currently working on "conflict with a God'. I think it's coming along but I'm really hitting a wall with my rendering skills.

I did this copy of an ear cast to try and improve my brushwork. I think I did learn something.

working on my rendering ability. The actual rendering is not great but is a lot more detailed than I usually have been able to go. And in the past I would never have been able to match these colors and values accurately without the color picker.

It's definitely a good feeling when you can see progress from how you were in the past until now, :D

If I may recommend a video that gives you other practical advice in terms of studying then check this one out,

Wow u always impress me with the skill to depict color very naturally and the values are top because of it i can sense a richer feel of depth. Keep practicing i like you paintings.
3. Semester now specialise on your strenght... but on what if there are so many? I guess it´s illustration for now.

@alphawolfin thank you!

Here's another the still life I am working on currently. It's called the still life of doom because of the difficulty. There are four light sources and many reflective surfaces.

It looks like a hot mess at the moment! But then again the still life itself is a hot mess, so maybe I'm succeeding? :D we'll see.

You forgot a fluted copper bundt tin in your still life from hell.
Image

P.S. The bundt tin was an infamous object for the still lifes in my painting classes.

its a lovely bundt tin. I think we all have an iconic object that we continuously are forced to represent. for me it's that bloody candlestick.

Thanks! haha it was fun to make.

I am working on this abstract painting right now. I like the composition and where it's headed, I have plans for where to take the colors and add to the composition, but I feel like my professor hates it. some thoughts would be welcome.

I also photoshopped my some of my thoughts about what to paint next:

three days of figure painting! I am fairly happy with the result this being my first live model painting. Painting a breathing human is such a different approach to painting from a photo or painting a still life. Still lifes don't sneeze.

Did a photo study today. Most detailed study I think i have ever done, with the goal of having clean and sharp brushwork, and also using texture as a tool. What I learned is that it doesn't matter what brush you use, if you want the edges to look good you just have to zoom in and scrutinize every one. I am impressed with myself for being able to paint fairly well in proportion, though. I tried not to use the color picker unless I really needed to, but that plinth gave me a lot of trouble.
