seriously tho i really like your last drawing :) many stuff flies around and interesting pose ^^ umm one thing tho, try to make the picture alittle smaller next time?.. its kinda hard looking at all of it especially when some1 like me is using a laptop to browse it.

Tell isamuffin that if you like the drawing, they're to one who drew it. :P Muffin's sketchbook Muffin's DA post I just recreated to line art digitally/am going to try coloring it. I'm glad the panties were funny though. ^^ And yeah I'll probably post stuff smaller anyway, I need to figure that out. But what you can do is right click it and then click view image if you wanna see the whole thing. :D

Liyrical wrote:Yes, I do draw RWBY :) Also I have Manga Studio too! I use its Japanese version, however it's under the name of Clip Studio, but they're basically the same. Do you use stabilizers when you're linearting? owo

Sweet! :D And I have it on the default settings, which I believe has a little bit of stabilization. I've never tried increasing it though. For my recent paintover of lonely_duckling's post, that's all I had. But with isamuffin's alice, I was using vector line art and I did put on some post-line correction, as well as good bit of editing the individual vector points after the line was drawn.

For me, space, shift+space, control+space, and undo (bound to one of my tablet's buttons) are my best friends. I draw with a rather stiff wrist and my pen pointing almost straight down so that most of the work is in my arm. And then I do pretty fast strokes, redoing the line as many times as needed.

Okay I'm finally going to be not lazy and update this! I'm super happy art-wise right now because I did a couple drawings, and they seemed to just click in my mind. ^^ I switched to a mechanical pencil and went back to my physical sketchbook, then when I drew some figures everything from the line-art to the construction and proportions worked well for my level of skill, and in a reasonable amount of time. :D

But before I post that page, I thought I'd post pretty much ALL of my old sketches from before I made this forum sketchbook. Since I'm pretty new to art and only really started when I got a physical sketchbook for Christmas of 2014, it might be interesting to show all of my work to accurately show my progress from the beginning. I'm hoping that this will be fun and interesting to watch for the people who are at a higher skill level than me, and encouraging to anyone at a lower/similar skill level who isn't confident enough about their own progress. (assuming I do make decent progress myself. :P Yay for optimism!) Well enough rambling, here's all my old art:

Spoiler: show
-----OLD STUFF-----
^^Read the second above paragraph for why^^
Also some of it is out of order.

My first thing in the sketchbook. I chose words so that I couldn't mess it up...and I messed it up.
Image

Copied directly from another image
Image

Also copied directly, except for the deathnote
Image

Still copied directly
Image

Yep, copied directly except for the clothing
Image

I couldn't figure out some eye stuff
Image

:3
Image

Dat perception
Image

My friend got a beta fish, so I drew him this 100% accurate render of it
Image

Proportions are hard!
Image

Fun fact: the two characters combined here share the same English voice actor
Image

So artistic :P
Image

More intense learning. She looked much worse before I dissected every mistake I could find, and put a bunch of work into fixing her
Image

I still love this composition. I really need to remake this in digital.
Image

More unfinished stuff
Image

Failed (at the moment) character concept
Image

Unfinished Regular Show style Miku
Image

I got a bigger sketchbook!
Image

Learned a lot from this too
Image

Composing a sketch that can't be cropped is tough
Image

Those shoulders :P
Image

Butt!
Image

Heads are weird
Image

NEVER DRAW FROM AND ANGLE!
Image

Need to redraw this one as well
Image

Never actually drew any of these
Image

Another one directly copied from a reference. As well as another voice actor crossover (a very unexpected one)
Image

My response image to my first "critique this" post. Never finished it because I still couldn't figure out figure construction at the time
Image

Wat
Image

Unrefined concept
Image

Wow her arm is long
Image

Still couldn't construct figures well/didn't have a single specific construction method I liked
Image

The early usage of Niso's (from DA) construction method, which I like a lot (the random geometry is new though)
Image

...Surprisingly there actually is a reason behind this
Image

More butts!
Image

And boobs! They're actually from memory as well. Rather unsurprisingly, my brain seems to have a decent understanding of what they look like (...I think)
Image

My first photo-reference figure practices
Image

More figures. It was very hard for me to find a construction method I liked
Image

And now for stuff from an old book my sister never used
Image

I mainly just tried to be a smart-ass with every prompt it gave me :P
Image

That's what they meant, right?
Image

This one is reeeeally bad. Poor Miyako. T^T
Image

Dat line-art! So clean.
Image

Ru's weapon. ^^
Image

First one to get the reference, if anyone does, I will love you forever and draw whatever image you want. :D
Image

I was struggling to be a good smart-ass lol.....DAMNIT I should have draw butter with wings!
Image

Also this painting that I call "GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKING TRIPLE SPIKES!!!"
Image

And this pun :P

And as for the new stuff, here's something I did from Mark Crilley's "The Realism Challenge" which is a pretty cool book. It sucks that I couldn't make the image of the paper any whiter though. Oh well. I tried shading all of it, and erasing the parts I wanted to lighten, which kinda worked.

Image

And here are the figure drawings from imagination :3
Image

Since I'm finally all caught up with this, I'll start scanning my stuff as well for better image quality. Man was uploading this all a lot of work! But yay I'm finally done! :D

I finally finished the page of fencing stuff, which hopefully has the right forms and techniques. :P Hopefully I can sit down tonight and really crank some more stuff out, because I need to be drawing more often. Feel free to tell me to draw something, or yell at me to keep drawing if I keep slacking. Something about another person wanting it helps add importance and keeps me productive, plus it's just fun to draw other people's ideas. ^^

I'm sorry.

I'm probably making a bigger deal about this than I should, but I feel really bad about it so I want to get this off my chest.

Almost a year ago, I suddenly became super overwhelmed with college, in a panic as I tried to figure things out. And because of that, I stopped posting here our of nowhere, even though I was supposed to be helping people with composition. The fact that I did that has always bothered me immensely, and I'm greatly sorry to anyone I troubled by doing that. I can't apologize enough for abandoning the responsibilities that were presented to me, and ever since then, I've been scared to come back and face what I left behind. I've wanted to, but I couldn't bring myself to.

But recently, to make a long story short, I stopped focusing my efforts towards another hobby, and have decided instead to focus much more intensely on drawing and art. I want this to become my main hobby. And with that, I want to return to the forums. I miss having friends and peers in the art world, I miss the friends I had made here, and I miss the community as a whole. So one last time, I'm sorry for suddenly leaving like I did, and I'm sorry for never apologizing and explaining why I did.

With said now said, hello Sycra Forum! It's time that I create a fresh start for myself, and continue my strive to better my artistic skills along with all of you.

Well with that now hopefully behind me, here's some art.

And here's a page I drew up just this night. I'm not particularly proud of it, but there are some acceptable things, and this is only the beginning of me really pushing myself 100% into learning art. Optimism for the journey ahead! ^^

Ahhhh, time for the hellish process of learning how to even draw the lines I want, since I'm pushing to sketch in digital now. 90% of my mental energy seems to be going into just drawing the line. But with persistence, it seems to be coming along! :D Does anyone have any tips for digital sketching on a small tablet? My biggest problem is that I'm trying to keep the whole person showing so I don't ruin the proportions, but the lines I draw end up being waaaaaaay too small and difficult. How do you guys choose when to zoom in?

I've noticed that it's fairly common for people to struggle with dynamism, especially in the torso area. But even when trying to fix it and draw more dynamically, there is a tendency to slooowly crawl towards something dynamic, playing it very safe. But I think that intentionally trying to go way too far with bending the body, then doing one's best to make it work/slowly pulling back towards anatomically possible, would be a quicker and more effective way to feel comfortable with pushing dynamism. And that is what I tried doing with the torso here. :P

TL;DR-- Dynamic torsos are hard, so pushing it really far (intentionally "too" far) might help for learning.

About the zooming in thing. I don't know about manga studio but in photoshop you can go: window>arrange>new window for "document" allowing you to see the picture zoomed in and out at the same time. I imagine manga studio has something similar?
