Subject title: Baby Steps Towards Giant Strides

Hello fellas......Greetings from Curacao (Where is that?) My name is Brian.

A little info about who I'm:
I have been drawing occasionally since I was a child. I always loved comics, but didn't continue drawing due of parents and whatnot. So now I'm retaking back my creative spark. By creating this thread, I'm able to share what I draw, and maintain accountability about my progress. Thanks for passing by.....Forgot to say, I haven't tested out digital drawing, so this thread will mainly consist of traditional until I buy a tablet.

Hey Brian!

You're gesture drawings look great. Seems we share a similar story with drawing. I also gave up creative expression because of my dad. Perhaps we could keep each other accountable and progress through what we learn :)

Keep up the great work

Sounds good to me :D ! We might as well make a thread in the group section and see who is up for it etc. And thanks for the compliment about the gestures. Although some of them are quite odd / bad proportions hahaha....but I started to get a hang of it by yesterday. Or at least for some of them, which you may notice.

I thought you're odd shapes were the most expressive. o.O

I'm up for making a group thread. Can we call it the legion of noobz? or the league of extrodinarily uninformed? I'm doin it.

Hey man keep working and keep motivated :D
Are gestures all the drawings you do or is there more that you're not uploading?
If it's all you do I'd recommend you do sketches from life or reference, doesn't matter what kind, the point is just to get a lot of mileage to improve line quality, the ability to measure distances and angles properly, get a better sense for proportion.
Also have a look at this: http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-draw-learn#module164484035 it's a guide from the 4chan Artwork/critique board and a bit more concise then this Forums "Helpful links and pictures" or "Beginner artists - read this topic !" threads.

Gestures is not the only thing I do. I have some other sketches that I haven't posted, but can be found in one of my old username thread...viewtopic.php?t=2121

For now, I'm trying to set up a daily mantra for drawing. Like regular hours to remain consistent, which is why I'm focusing on gestures in this week, since its quite fun, and it's letting me get back into drawing. After that, I will focus on the other fundamentals which I used to work on. Thanks for the link, but I already know about it. :D

Hi Brian,

So just a couple tips from me. make sure to establish the lights and dark tones of a piece. it gives variation and depth instead of just flat gray. Especially with glass and shiny stuff that might be transparent. start of with an HB type pencil and then throw in a 2B for darker values. (I can't work very well with photoshop and a mouse >.<) When doing ellipses try to soften them so they have no angles or points.Use white as a way to make distinction of edges as you would any other color. (Again excuse my sloppy mess of photoshop.) I really did like the glass you did though. I didn't even have to touch the reflection you put on the base. Fantastic!

p.s if your glass was transparent at the base ignore my addon. lol all my glasses have the frosted concave.

Thanks for the advice. Although those are some sketches I did 2 months ago or so. By the way, I also have a link to one of my old thread (Fisharto) feel free to check it out. That way you can see what I did and so on.

PS: Old thread link > viewtopic.php?t=2121 (Back then my attitude was kind of horrible)

Always fun to see people in starting or restarting... Get ready to put in the mileage bro, and welcome to the family. Hope you have fun around here.

Keep it up

Thanks for the encouragement!

Been slacking off a little bit, but getting into the drove again. Although I did draw a couple of times in the past few days, nothing really exciting. More of basic exercises.

Anyway here are just a few perspective practice again.

Hey brain, glad to see you practicing :D With those perspective practices your making the two vanishing points too close together, which makes the buildings look skewed and funny. Remember with perspective its always better to have the points too far than too close. Keep up the good work!
