Subject title: Amanda's Sketchbook of meh

Thanks SQ!!! I like that we can kinda go along and inspire each other with our work. :D The stuff you've been putting out lately is amazing!

So I've been thinking to myself I REALLY need to start working digitally again. Last time I did I really didn't know what I was doing and my traditional ability was not so great. It was one of those situations where I thought I could just get a tablet and suddenly my art would be beter (hint: it doesn't work that way)

So anyway I'm trying to get back into digital stuff and an amazing resource for that is this little website right here... http://www.ctrlpaint.com/

Not only does it give general drawing advice but it specifically caters to learning how to draw in a drawing software. It focuses on photoshop, but I've been using Paint Tool Sai and it's pretty much been working the same for me. SO anyway here is one of the paint mixing exercises from the site. Basically you mix paints without getting out the mixer tool just as if you were mixing real paint. After I finished I graded myself on degrees of seperation from the original colors that were provided on top. That's what those circled numbers are. Anyway, this is the first step!

Phew, there have been a lot of drawings lately, but not much uploading unfortunately. Here's a few things (Not nearly everything) along with a video ^_^ I'm trying to set up a little art youtube channel and this would be my very first video. SO yeah!

So I just want to clarify to anyone who even cares.... I did not die. Nor did I stop drawing. I just dont post to the forums very often because it takes a while to compile all my drawings and stuff and resize them and blahhh blah blah. But I've been pretty busy, though and this time I've been away I've been REALLY trying to learn digital painting in photoshop. I still have a ways to go but at least I'm not constantly fighting with the program now. I'm still very open to critique though, since I feel like I still can't really make an image look nice as a whole. I'm tryingggggg :/

Also I've been hired on with an indie game dev team as a 2D artist. Right now they have me on UI design for menus and stuff but they eventually want me brought on for creature design as well. So there's that. Also I've been working on a personal project that's Zelda inspired. I hope to have that ready for a big reveal by Zelda month (November)... so yeah I didn't give up on drawing or anything. Just haven't posted here in a while ^_^

This was my art test for working as an artist for an indie game company. The prompt was a space themed slots game, but not scifi but more like NASA space.

I work at an escape room place and my boss commissioned me to illustrate the next room they're planning. The theme is Carnival of Lost Souls. (Also if you've never done an escape room you should!!!)

Super stylish those girls! I love the one with the glasses.
Also, I'd never heard of escape rooms before but that sounds really fun, albeit a little freaky. I wish I worked in a place like that.

Thank you ^_^ Yeah, escape rooms are pretty fun and they aren't all a scary theme. It's a fun side job while I'm trying to do more with my art and such :P

So our escape rooms usually have 2 rooms to them... so here is my illustration for the second room in our creepy carnival theme. I think this turned out better than the last one.

I feel like the composition is unbalanced but I have to adhere to how the room will actually be laid out. So yeah.... the only thing I would want to fix with this I can't really :/

Some more recent stuff. Lately I've been painting so many prop type stuff and being satisfied with how those are going. However, I've been having a very hard time bring any figure painting any more rendered than what you see below... Like.... I have no idea how to move from that sketch with base color/values stage to like a much more rendered over paint stage.... Not sure how to make that jump.

Woooah I haven't posted in these parts of the internet for a long time. I'm still learning and growing though! This is actually the first place I was posting my art back in 2013 when I first decided I was going to go on this art journey. What a road it's been. It's literally rewired my brain. Looking back on the first couple pages in this sketchbook really puts things in perspective.... Anyway, here are a few things I've painted recently. Any comments and critiques are absolutely welcome!

Hi Amanda.

Good thing you're posting again, this sketchbook has experienced some good change over the years.
I don't feel skilled enough to critique at all, but I feel like you can attempt some more complex stuff with your skill level. Any projects or big painting ideas?
Much success!
...you see, it's supposed to be fi_le like the file from the computer... the one where you put the data things in.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I really appreciate it. It's funny you mention that because doing more complex illustration has been on my mind lately. I want to do more work based in story, with the characters interacting in a scene as opposed to characters just... in the void. I guess doing stuff like that takes practice just like learning perspective or how to paint an eye.

I've been toying with an illustration for a scene with a gnome and a dwarf working on a project together in a tinker workshop. I want to use that setting to practice bringing a whole scene together and lighting it with practical light sources in mind. So far it's been difficult but I'll keep working on it! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me. ^_^

Wow, I really like your stuff. Especially the guy with fiery hair holding the cup, that one is my favorite. Congrats on getting into a dev team!

Hi Amanda,

browsing through your sketchbook is showing how one can get better over years and this gives more fuel and hope to me:D
You have a lot of great stuff here but I like your recent stuff the most. Your progress here is so obvious. I guess it should work this way and hope that it will for me aswell onetime.

Have a great fun with your creation ;)
