Subject title: VirtueOne's Sketchbook

I don't really have a sketchbook, just random digital files... so, I mashed up some of the sketches I've worked on over the past few months. Please feel free to comment. Thanks! ;)

I could use some tips on drawing "organic" metal... here's a study I worked on recently. The object on the right was supposed to be a metallic apple - it looks more like a bell pepper or mutated pumpkin though...

Here's some recent spacey stuff!...

Any feedback is appreciated ;)

I love your strength and confidence when rendering. The metal objects look so classy and the space scenes are freakin' beautiful. Huge fan of the lizard girl as well - it's wonderfully captured and has loads of flow and life. I'd love to see it completed!

I gotta say you have some awesome sketches. I also like how you drew and color that lizard girl as well.

Also, I saw your metal rendering and saw an opportunity to learn. Here is what I ended up with. I feel that it's not exactly correct, but it was to the best of my current abilities. I felt it looked more like metal in the navigator as I was painting in photoshop, so I shrunk it down. Anyways, it might help you, but I guess you should take caution that it's probably only like 70% correct or less.

Experimenting with various facial features - these are all original (or from memory at least). ;)

Lol, these faces made me crack a smile, especially that 2nd one. That last one is little freaky though. Looks like a rape face.

Are these any good? I know the lines are kind of messy, but I'm mainly focusing on the form, perspective, and trying to maintain consistent characteristics throughout the different angles. This was done in a couple hours without any reference.

It seems consistent to me, except maybe for jaw on the 3/4 view from the back. I don't think the jaw has dropped down enough before curving towards the chin.

Recent paintings, done quickly, both from reference - I did this for fun. :)

I like the environment paintings, and they seem high quality. There's an artist's touch there. Good job man.

That last one is especially well done, near photo realistic. Nice rendering bud :).

Yeah this is good!! In fact I think it's incredible! I'd love to see you do the same thing with different characters: men, monsters, etc... At any rate keep up the awesome drawings! :D

I painted this lastnight. I wanted to work on something much more ambitious, but was having trouble, so decided to paint something simple/familiar. I didn't use a reference, I was testing my abilities here. Any critiques on color, shape, lighting, etc, would be helpful. ;)

Hmm.. there is a strange bright spot in the cast shadow, and the highlight on the apple itself might be too strong. It kinda looks like a concentrated light from a magnifying glass burning into the apple a bit. At the top right of the apple there is a yellow strip that seems strange. But as always, a great painting with style.

Thanks for the feedback Fenix. Updated per your critiques.

I think it does look better, but still feel like I'm missing some things. Oh well, practice makes perfect. ;)

I found a box of old drawings that I wanted to share here! These are atleast 14-15 years old. Some of these were done when I was only 10 years or younger, while the better ones were likely drawn in my teens. The mortal kombat and xmen references really made me laugh! Hope you enjoy.

XD those apples (both of them) amaze me :D
even if there is something wrong with it (which i do not see) they are still beautifull,
but if you are going for more realism i would look at the leaf ;)

and those old drawings give me hope for the future :D gotta love the first 2 pages :D
