For a sketchbook, this thing sure does have very few actual sketches in it. :?

Also I slapped together one of those "improvement meme" things - it definitely helps your confidence to reflect on how far you've come. But it's also a humbling reminder of how far you've yet to go. :)

The improvement is real, yo. A huge jump for less than one year of studies, i think :D

Love your big monster dude! I think you can really get the impression you intended from the design.

Thanks so much! Though I'm still far from feeling "comfortable" with art, I'm fairly happy with my progression so far.

Anyways, wow it's been a while. I haven't had much time lately, but here's a few random things from the past two weeks or so.

I love your beast/moose character! He looks like he would be a lot of fun to hang out with. Does he have a name?

I just love that last guy more with each pic you make of him, he always seems so kind and adorable! I really like how you made the colors work, btw, it's a pretty unusual combination I'd say, but it looks nice. His beard/fur looks like it's made of grass, which is cute =).

Thanks! He's a chill, lazy dude, lol. I've been calling him Roscoe, which means like "deer forest" or something. I thought it was very fitting.

Thanks! Maybe one day I'll actually settle on consistent designs for my characters, lolol. And I'm glad the grassy-ness of his hair is coming across! He's supposed to be like, a forest guardian, or something. :D

Thank you so much!

Here's some funky faces based on shapes.

And here, I tried designing another monster... but it just ended up turning into Toriel from Undertale instead. Whoops.

Oh gosh you guys, thanks!

Sketchy head painting. Didn't quite nail the from-below angle I was going for, but eh.

Face 2.jpg

And more of my characters, because of course. They're beer buddies.

Beer Buddies.jpg

I still feel kind of meh about my output, but I'm so slow at drawing! Even this silly thing took me way longer than it should have. :? Hopefully, speed will come with time.

Such a cute picture :D That mug looks like a tiny coffee cup in his hand.

I have kind of an opposite problem, can't slow down and think of what i'm doing. Overall, i think it's more valuable to be careful. I'm certain you will speed up with practice.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess it's true that you get faster with more experience... doesn't always feel that way, though. And it doesn't seem to me like you have to worry about slowing down, your stuff is incredible. :D

Anyway, this probably isn't terribly exciting, but it is for me, lol. I was frustrated with not feeling comfortable with color, so I tried finding a semi-reliable and easy way of picking good colors. I stumbled upon something that seems to work pretty well, so I tested it out with a few quick thumbnails. It's probably super obvious stuff to anyone with a traditional painting background, but whatevs, I'm happy.

And some Bridgman studies, I guess. Filler!

Another face/value study; wanted to focus on hair since I have no idea how it works. Here's the reference pic: https://41.media.tumblr.com/810099d75bf44c5cf7a611fa8b8089b3/tumblr_inline_nn56oydu631tswd4a_540.jpg

Very interesting colour study, I'm glad you shared it! I rather pick colours by random so it's often a hit or miss type situation, so it's interesting to see how it can be approached methodically. The samples seem to prove you right :D And your characters are adorbale as always :D Drinking beer together certainly helps any friendship hahah

Lolol totally, complaining to your friends about your problems over a frothy mug of something-or-other definitely helps the nerves. And thank you!

This is a neon... bodyguard? Detective? I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also tried designing another forest monster dude. (Edit: Slapped on some lighting.)

And I'm hoping that doing some quick animal studies will help inspire more creative beast designs in the future. Here's a few.

Thanks, man!

I haven't drawn much interesting stuff lately, mostly just studies. Here are some figure drawings of varying quality. :P
