I've been really focused on studying Bridgman and Loomis, traditionally of course. Want to get better at figure drawing and anatomy, so I haven't been doing many paintings lately.
These are just a few of my pages:

WELP it's been awhile! School started and i've been waaayyyy too busy, but I've been painting and drawing. Just not posting...

This one I learned A LOT from, especially with the paintover from my bf. I learned a lot, especially about lighting and form in general. I didn't think a lot during this piece, but now I know why I wasn't liking it and what was wrong. And I think (I hope) I've gotten better with lighting! I wanted to post it so that I don't forget about this lesson and so I can 'document' it in a way for myself. :D

Some studies, the first one a study from Paul Chabas and the other is from a photo of Kinashen.
Image

A bunch of gouache paintings! I'm new to gouache so I don't really know what I'm doing.. These are a few that I think turned out alright. Some of them are studies, others from imagination.

Aaaaand here's a painting of Mercy that I didn't finish and I dont think I ever will o-o
Image

I was really iffy on posting this one, but I'm trying to get myself to be more open and post the stuff I hate or don't want to show anyone. With this one, I was just playing with color and lighting. It's kinda stupid ;~;

WIP:

I'm slowly getting out of my comfort zone I think, I just need to start pushing myself even more. If anyone has critiques or tips, I would love to hear them! That's part of why I post here.

Awesome sketchbook you've got here! I love your paintings, especially those fruits, flowers, and noses. You mentioned not being familiar with gouache, but I think they turned out beautifully.

yeah, it was a lot of fun and very different from what I normally do! and i think that's from a line in one of the songs, right? haha i can't remember tbh, it's been a while since I've last watched it! but that's true, it's rare for kids to appreciate the craftsmanship of disney movies but I think they're more focused on the story and magic of it which adults tend to lose appreciation for as they get older. So it goes hand in hand i suppose.
oh and thank you! c:

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like that, I've been trying to improve on it and I think those portraits helped me quite a bit

So this was an assignment for Victoria Yang's vis dev course, first lesson. I don't really feel very successful with any of these tbh so I think I'll keep doing these and try to figure out how to get better with the composition. I know the basics, harmony vs contrast aka small vs big, dark vs light, etc etc. so it's probably a matter of actively trying to apply that information? or perhaps its a lack of application and I just need to keep working on it... I mostly worked on playing with shapes and their sizes, so I should probably explore more with other aspects like value.
