Subject title: laurenhiya21's attempt at remembering to post

Hi, I'm laurenhiya21 from Canada (although I am living in the US now ha).

I'm a bit shy about posting art other than super finished things on deviantart (not that many people look at my stuff there though haha), but I still would like to get some critique and/or tips on how to improve... So that's why I signed up :)
I am probably still farily poor at a lot of fundamental things, but it's very difficult for me to figure out where to begin I suppose... but I'll post some work below :)

Some pieces from a few months ago (maybe more like quite a few months though ><; ):

This one I did with my left hand. I kind of like doing experiments like this sometimes

And finally something that I started in January and I'm still working on... I am still very slow unfortunately ._.

Ah wow, my post was approved pretty quickly :)

Anyway, I worked a bit on this one last night. Mostly with the wings and hair (I forgot that I had worked on the dress and skin earlier whoops)

Technically I started these in late October but I just finished these yesterday :| I tried to do the Inktober Challenge last month but I got a bit overwhelmed and couldn't end up doing a drawing per day, so it would just pile on and on and on... So I ended up not finishing a bunch but I still really wanted to finish them all. I ended up deciding that it was taking me too long to do that, so I just stopped finishing them with these.

Thanks, I'll do my best! :)

And I forgot to post this... I felt that I needed to draw something today, but I was really at a loss of what to draw :/ So yay, random ladies?

Thanks! It will be a long while before I get to 1000 sketches though lol

Worked a little more on my painting thing (can you call digital works paintings?) and I did a few more sketchy things yesterday and today. Mostly tried a few proportion and rotating stuff around... I wanted to see where I was at right now before trying exercises on improving I suppose? And sorry for the blurriness at the top & sides of the sketches... My scanner is too small for this particular sketchbook (I really need to get a new one ._.)

Thanks! Lately I've been in a rut creative wise, so it's nice doing learning exercises since I like having a task to do and it means I'm at least drawing something. I haven't done these sort of exercises in a few years so it certainly isn't boring so far lol

Yesterday I started in a new sketchbook, and it claimed that you wouldn't be able to see ink through the pages so I decided to test that out. (some of my pens were dying anyway) So far that seems to be true, so that's nice. Not so great with pencils though since it doesn't erase too well.
ink-testPG-small.png

Also today I've started to go through "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" since it always seems to be recommended. Haven't gotten too far yet though. Not happy with all of these (I didn't plan my space very well with the hand one, and I don't really get the face+vase exercise) but w/e. I'm not being graded so it's ok haha.

Yesterday I continued with "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". Not a whole lot to say, but the room one took so long. I liked how it turned out (well, other than the scanner messing it up), but rooms are not really what I enjoy to draw so it was a bit of a drag. I'm fairly far into the book though, so I'll finish that before doing other exercises.

Also did a few pages of just... ink doodles I suppose, since I was a bit burnt out from drawing boring furniture (and not being able to sleep gah). I tried to do a few poses (which all turned out either bad or very stiff) and a lot of hands. I think I liked doing the sign language number hands the most. Not sure why but it wasn't bad for practice since all the fingers are used for them.

Getting close to the end of the Right Brain stuff! Just need to do the final self portrait. :D

This one was a bit tricky since my model was playing WoW with his friends. Also I am bad with beards

Haven't been feeling so great as of late so I haven't been drawing as often, plus what I have drawn has been mostly pretty... meh? There are a few frustration doodles throughout these ha... (especially with the last two pages)

Ack, it's been so long since I've posted ><; I haven't been feeling too well as of late bleh.
I have been drawing still though! Started trying to do more basics stuff to work on my foundations. Nothing incredibly interesting, but hopefully it helps me later :U
(also did some doodles which I'll put in a different post since this one is pretty lengthy ><)

Just a few doodle pages, plus a drawing a did for a Secret Santa on Deviantart. I rarely use pencil crayons so the result is a little odd :/ (it does look better in person though)

Another exercise done! This one was really difficult to wrap my head around. Still not sure I understand how to do it but I guess I'll see once I complete the last exercise in the set :/ Also did a small assignment for a drawing class I just started today. The first assignment was just to draw something so at least it was easy :> (I forgot to shine a light on it to check for mistakes though so the head's a little off ._.)

Thanks! I'm really liking the boxes exercises so far. I haven't gotten to the 250 box challenge yet though, so I'll see if I'm still liking it then XD

Thank you! I think it helps me when I have some sort of instructions with specific things to do, cause if I don't have that I just do random stuff that barely helps me at all. Plus the guy doing the draw a box stuff will also give feedback which is also really nice (or I guess it will be once I finish the first lesson ha)

Your drawings are absolutely adorable, it's difficult not to smile when looking at them =').
Curious Alice question of the day: is your character a fox or a wolf? I'd say cat, but the tail seems so fluffy... it actually looks like a fox because of it, but the ears are brown... confused Alice is confused @_@. Anyway, she's really cute ^^

Btw, looked a bit into http://drawabox.com/ after seeing it in this post and... oh my, it looks really helpful. I can see a lot of your practice is from there, and it looked awesome, so I might try it out too =D.

Yeah, I think that was the site lol. I think the owner of the site has this subreddit where he'll critique the lessons.

Yeah he does have a subreddit for critiques. Really nice of him to do that considering how many submissions he gets D:

Thank you! Originally my character was supposed to be a cat, but I've tried to change it fairly recently to be more like a fox (mostly since the tail I drew wasn't very cat like lol). But there are brown foxes! :D The brown looks a bit different from how I coloured the ears though so I might need to fix that in the future ha.

Awesome! I hope you give the drawabox thing a shot :) Some of the assignments so far can be a bit difficult, but a bit of challenge is good! I can't wait to get to some non-box assignments though haha

The last exercise in Lesson 1 (from drawabox) was pretty tough, but I finally finished it! :D Just have to put it all together and submit for critique. Not sure if I'll need to re-do anything, but it will be either that or more boxes next lol

Did some experimenting with a bunch of hilighters I had laying around... Not like I use them for school so why not art? The pinks look nothing like they do in real life though which is lame :/ (also I continue to struggle with my too small scanner)
Also I started the 250 cube challenge! It's going pretty slow since I haven't been feeling well, but it will get finished eventually. So far I've been doing pretty poorly though and I've made a lot of mistakes :l
