Keep it up! it's good to see you practice, some of your figures already look pretty accurate

Wow, some of your figures are better than mine o: you've made really good progress, keep it up!
One thing that does bother me is how hard the lines are around the lips. If you aren't going to shade them yet, I suggest you make the lines more subtle/soft, like http://media.tumblr.com/bc2b406045a40d8 ... r2ob8t.jpg

thx for feedback dancewithshinee. you are right with the lips that i should shade. as long as i am only sketching i will continue like before, but when i want to draw really realistically i will try to do the lips better.

and now one new page of practice.

And since i watch Bakuman at the time, I did this kind of fanart-drawing for fun with my favorite characters (but with reference of course).

So, there was this guy who wrote a story for a book and now he wanted a book-cover created.
I know I am not good enough yet to create such thing, but to see what i have to improve i just tried to create that cover.

The story was about a girl who is a mercenary and collects money and materials to rebuilt her home city. She has a cart to collect stuff.
She is a bit chubby but still cute and she uses a big hammer as weapon. These infos were given and the following sketch i made from that.

(It is completely from imagination, no real reference)
What do u think of this?

Some hands for practice

hands1_small.jpg

hands2_small.jpg

And the following i did COMPLETELY without any reference and the design is from my memory of an old game. I used NO reference, thats why i am kind of proud of it, because 1 or 2 months ago i could not have done that. :)

Doodled some Deamons. But i notice a massive gap between my drawing when i use references and when i just try with imagination.

There's a bunch of improvement already, it seems to me that you're doing just the right thing :) Studying and mixing with challenging yourself to draw from imagination. The book cover was a neat idea and a smart way to test yourself :)

I am still working on my Drawing from Imagination.
I have several pages i would show, but since the forum still gives errors, I just made a video.

If you are a person who tries to draw from imagination it may help you as well.

Watched the video partly :) Interesting to see how you work.
As for the question in the end ''is drawing from imagination the same as drawing from memory?'' I would personally say that it's not.. but by drawing from memory you still can build the tools to understand the forms and draw from imagination (imagining a picture you have not actually seen, instead of drawing something you remember seeing) by taking parts of memory and parts of making up.. Without memories to start from, it's hard to imagine clearly enough to draw it.. maybe?
I don't know, I'm just reasoning with myself as I type :)

don't sell yourself short - your art isn't a bad as you make it out to be! in my opinion you're probably focusing on the details that you are unhappy with, which has a negative impact on your self esteem? anyways, i like your art, and honestly i think you already have a good grasp on what colors look good together based on this last girl :D
