Subject title: Plumbum's Alchemical sketchbook

geryes: Thank you so much for your motivating compliments! I do agree with you. But first I need to have a better understanding on how to do 3d. We are going to use a proportion method which uses the cranium as measurement for proportion, so it's pretty complicated.

fi_le: Thank you so much as well! And yes plumbun is a great name, especially in relation with the name of our sketchbook!

We have not been able to do programming, among other things, for a while due to being in a really bad place right now. This has meant that even though we technically could do art art, it still became harder and harder.

The 4th of May:
Spoiler: show
This day she started with heads. The drawings are both from Loomis and from reference: (well other than the thing in the right corner)
Image
Then some gesture:
Image
And in the end some more mannuquins:
Image

The 5th of May:
Spoiler: show
Started with the bean:
Image
She realised that we need more accuracy and did that for a page:
Image
She tried to do heads, but it she needed a head-pause. She mostly drew heads from imagination instead:
Image
Some mannuquins. She wanted to do more, but we were too tired to continue.
Image

The 6th of May:
Spoiler: show
Today we have finnally got back to our usual selves :D
Started with some boxes from reality. The smaller boxes are from imagination.
Image
Back to working on cicles again. Still not happy:
Image
30 sec gesture:
Image
Robo bean:
Image
Some mannequins:

Writer: he is usually the one who writes on the forum.
Lawyer: he studies everything, honestly.

Damn! those mannequin drawings look really good! Lots of gesture and great job on capturing the 3d form. I think if you do more of that, it will definitely help with you getting a good sense of proportions.

Keep up the great work!
I too mainly draw girls.

geryes: Thank you so much! I do hope that will happen because if there is one thing we are dreading, it's studying proportions directly.

The 7th of May:
Spoiler: show
We started with circles:
Image
Tried to do more Loomis but it just was not meant to be. I don't know what it is about him but I have a really hard time getting anything out of his teaching methods. I have studied from other books and I have no problems with those. It's just Loomis. After this day I gave up and decided to go back to Proko's videos on the head. I cannot wait for when Proko is going to release the head anatomy course at some point after he is done with his current one. Anyway here is the page:
Image
And some more mannequins:
Image

The 8th of May:
Spoiler: show
More circles and some accuracy training:

The 9th and 10th sort of bled into one day, so erm, I'll just call it yesterday.

We started with structure:

The 11 and 12 of May (yes, the days blended together again):

Then continued drawing heads: this time profiles and near-profiles.

Sadly we managed only one mannequin:

Been moving the 16th, so we barely did anything the 16 to the 17th.

The 14th of May:

Heads. The creepy mouths and eyes are due to us simplifying those shapes. The shapes are quite poorly aligned, hopefully it will be better the more we do it.

Josephcow: That means a lot coming from you! I hope that we at one point can be as good as you!

Steeliebob: It also means a lot coming from you, you have such a wonderful and interesting style.

I got my scanner back so the pictures are a lot better quality!

The 20th of May:
Spoiler: show
This must have been an accuracy one:
Image
More eggs, she improved quite a lot in my opinion, just one day ago she was drawing them a lot worse:
Image

The 21st of May:
Spoiler: show
Perspective freehand, most from imagination:
Image
Imagination drawing. The reason this is page number three is that number two was a gesture charcoal drawing. Not something we want scanned.
Image

The 22nd of May:
Spoiler: show
30 sec gesture drawing:
Image
Mannequins. On the one I copied from Proko (the middle one), he did not draw the full body. To make sure I had actually learned from following him, she made sure to draw the full figure.

Finally up to date again! :D

The 27th of May:
Spoiler: show
Gesture:

Mannequins:

Eyes:

The 28th of May:
Around the middle of this day we started Marshall Vandruff's course on perspective. It is really good and I highly recommend it! It is only $12! We have read through countless books and never been able to understand perspective. We also bought a considerably more expensive video course which while we understood it, went technical too soon. We prefer not going straight to the T-square before we understand basic concepts. Vandruff's course is super easy to understand, and while slightly technical the whole time though, it is not hindering in any way.
Spoiler: show
Imagination:
Image
Perspective drawing. Some imagination, some from life.
Image
We tried to simplify the arm, still too detailed. As the instructor was Marshall Vandruff, and since Proko had recommended him so highly, we decided to look him up. He had a course on perspective. The cubes are from his first episode in the series. That one also happen to be free.
Image
A few more cubes and some imagination:

Trying to understand perspective better:

The 29th of May:
Spoiler: show
Cubes:

All imagination drawing:

This is after watching his second episode on perspective:

And some more plus some drawings:
Image
Trying to do the arm again. We were pretty tired by this point:
Image

The 30th of May:
Spoiler: show
Imagination drawings:

Image
Gesture:
Image
These awful two drawings come from her drawing when one of us were too sad. He did feel better after talking to my best friend for a while, so all is good. Kinda hate to upload it but I feel like I should.
Image
We tried to do inking. Not sure if she liked it. Despite one of us using the exact same pen for calligraphy, our artist had as much of a problem inking as she always does. The ink smutched a bit in some areas, either because it’s not compatible with our markers or because we should wait at least a few hours instead of 30 minutes.
Image

The 31st of May
Spoiler: show
1.5 minute perspective drawings analysing a room:
Image
A bit of everything:

We did not draw on the 1st of June.

The 2nd to 3rd of June:
Spoiler: show
1.5 minute perspective drawings analysing a city:

Great looking practice so far. Your anatomy and gesture studies are coming along great, as well as the perspective stuff.

The elipse studies look good too. One suggestions I could make is to try and make two elipses loosely instead of perfectly. Then connect them with the appropriate through lines. This will help loosen up your arm and draw more confidently.

The idea is that you should be able to draw shapes like elipses as loose and confident as you write your signature. Which is basically a gestural version of writing your name :)

Keep up the great work.
I too mainly draw girls.

Today is our birthday, so that's something...

geryes: I think what you are seeing is our mood, we have been through some stressful times and it has affected our hand eye coordination quite a lot. It's not just ellipsis we have trouble with, it's everything. She tried to do what you talked about but it turned out pretty bad. On the bright side: we are slowly regaining better control over our hand again. And of course: thank you for your compliments, it means a lot!
