Subject title: Aiko/Sabra's Sketchbook [NSFW]

EDIT 2 (7/8/2016)--added an NSFW tag to this because I don't really care about posting it SFW or not lol

EDIT (pertaining to the image featured) (9/10/2015)--here's what the picture posted in this looks like currently, although I currently don't have access to the file so I can't change it anymore right now: http://imgur.com/uMPwahh

Hello! Congrats on finding my sketchbook. I'm sorta new to Sycra, the forum, and the plethora of resources I'm finding here (the critique part seems to be actually active and that's amazing).

First off, I'm gonna post a current WIP I'll be asking for critiques on later (when I post it for critique, I'll post on another site so it's the full view, instead of just a screenshot). Then I'll dump some of my other SFW stuff here later. I do have NSFW stuff, too--message for that. Obviously I'll post nude studies, but I don't really consider that NSFW on an art site.

Here we go:

It's been so long since I've been here, hasn't it?

Lets start this off by saying I can't post almost any of the figure drawing I did the past months I didn't post here. I DID do a full course on Proko, and watched his videos...pretty much on repeat.

(I know he's not perfect, but I learn better visually/audibly, and he's the only really good free youtuber next to Sycra I can stand, and Sycra doesn't cover the things he does...plus, Sycra is kinda hard to follow for me, on occasion.)

But here; lets post some of what I do have:

http://i.imgur.com/HcCJtIN.png

This took about two hours. It's not practice, but it loaded up on Imgur first, haha. It was almost purely for fun, but also because I want to practice food and color.

http://i.imgur.com/pg348tg.jpg

Here's one thing I did at about the half way point of doing figure drawing. I can identify a lot of problems with it now, but I haven't gotten SO much better--I'm getting a better eye for my own mistakes, however.

http://i.imgur.com/VoWBmyD.jpg

This was for fun, again. But I did want to do clothing practice, so.

http://i.imgur.com/nd8otG9.png

This one was a doozey. Several hours; over ten, MAYBE over 15. Almost all-at-once.

The picture I was basing/referencing from to paint this:

Love that latest piece, the black and white one. Only issue is that without the belt rendered, the waist looks a bit weird. Loving your progress though, keep it up!

Oh man, thank you so much! And yeah, I agree; I plan to add in the belt soon, but I was going on 15-20 hours on that piece, and I was just...too frustrated. So I'm taking a long break from it, and finishing up a few things about it, hahaha.

Thank you again!

This was a Christmas present for a friend! The last picture took 30 minutes; this I worked on on and off for two days, so I'd say more like 10-15 hours; no real guarantee of how long, but.

This is the first picture I've done in like a year based on the FFT style, and it's a lot more canonical; however, because it was a free request, and it took 12 hours, the shading isn't as good as I should've made it. I focused on the lineart a lot, actually.

http://i.imgur.com/WYncwre.jpg

This second one is a /little/ better, but on both of them I never actually made a light source like I ought to, and I just sorta played around with familiarizing myself with hatching (which I'm still not that good at). I also felt awful the majority of the time working on this; sleep deprivation and other such things, so the anatomy and the clothing is kinda...wonky.

That's about it; thanks guys!

Oof, imgur's acting up, so I can only post one more picture. Here's a couple of doodles I did for a friend without reference; I'll probably redo them with reference later out of curiosity.

I love those recent sketches. It looks like you're bringing a lot more gesture into your works. I'd love to see more drawings from you :)

Thank you so much!!! Sorry for a late reply, I've been incredibly busy this past month.
Speaking of more drawings, I started going to a life drawing class. Here's one of the pieces I did; I used a really bad phone camera, but once I get a memory card for my good camera, I'll take a picture of it using that:

Also, here's a study I did where I used a Po-Ju picture as reference and drew a different character in the pose and with a sweater more to their personality on. I used the original reference as help for figuring out the lighting, too. NSFW:

God, it's been a while, hasn't it?
I've been reluctant to post here bc I've actually been really in tune with the issue in my pictures; the last time I asked for criticism anywhere, and listed what I already knew didn't work, people said I already more or less knew what they were gonna say. Because of that, I didn't wanna waste anyone's time, and have since been focusing on individual study.

I've been doing three things. Mostly, I've been working on Drawabox--the lessons are really getting me to think about form in a 3D way, while also teaching me -how- to break down complex creatures into a handful of shapes, while still staying loose. After that, in order to gauge how I've been doing and also as a way to get an actual project on my portfolio, I've been illustrating covers to short erotic stories my sister does. Lastly, and I only started this a week ago but it's already helping, I began working on Ctrl+Paint's Rendering 4-part series in the premium section.

I'm putting Proko -kinda- on hold; I'm rewatching and rewatching his series of portraits, but I'm not going to be following it super carefully just yet. That'll come next; after that, I'll take a refresher in Proko's Figure Drawing courses, and then I'm going to -finally- start on the anatomy portion. I've been trying to push myself to work with it, but I didn't want to admit that I just...couldn't. It was too hard, and I didn't have enough fundamentals under my belt to really start to grasp anatomy. Seeing things in 3D is fairly new, and it's still a bit of a struggle, so the journey leading to anatomy practice is not over yet.

Anyway, below I'm going to list an album with all of my recent practices, labelled as which practice going to what (also, I didn't upload any of the art I did for lessons 1 and 2 of Drawabox; too much stuff, you know?). After that, I'm going to link to the covers I did for the short stories, but they're all really underwhelming since they came BEFORE the rendering series but AFTER I started Drawabox.

The album: http://imgur.com/a/nYOOy
The illustrations, done before the end of doing the Drawabox plant lessons: 1 (http://imgur.com/dNWhWgz and also I don't think I'd start Drawabox period) and 2 (http://imgur.com/qOiN7VD)

This is a very early-stage wip. The fabric is all a placeholder, since I wanna do a fabric study. The hair will be changed to more reflect the characters. I have to do the faces. Y'know.

I'll probably keep a similar color scheme as the GWTW, to follow in the "parody" feel. For anyone curious about what this might be about, it's the (late; family issues delayed things) illustration for a story about a guy having cutesy "it'll be just like in the movies" daydreams about his (prostitute) coworker. Meanwhile, said coworker is like "haha you're kinda hot" and they end up making out.

It's a (god, do we still say slash?) m/m story, so probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it was a mixture of adorable and hilarious and I'm hoping to capture the amusement on Sandy's face when I paint him. I'll link it once I finish the illustration, although that might be a few days.

Ack! I haven't posted here in a long time!!

I ended up finishing the Sandy picture. Here's a screencap. I'll list the Imgur URL in another post after I get some screenshots of some of my recent art posted. I've been here for a nice long time now, haven't I? It's only been like a year and two months or so but I've improved a LOT, man.

(For information, the person I was doing it for liked the sketched lines? She preferred I keep them. And, well...she got the final say, so.
The background, fabric, and hair I had a very very short time to do. I'd go into depth, but more or less, a lot of family shit happened and I was VERY late on the deadline;;; She liked it, so I guess it's okay, but I had an entirely different plan for most of the painting aspects of all three planned out.)

Here's a WIP I made for that same person (my sister). She wasn't feeling well and I was doing master studies, so I decided to focus one of them on her favorite character. It took about 3 hours and is unlikely to be finished, as it was sort of a one off.

I...am so fucking confused by faces. I need to study on them, but like, my ADHD has gotten SO BAD lately that I can't focus for shit. My depression is getting worse which is pretty much what's causing the normal ADHD stuff to flare, and that just makes me want to sit around feeling numb instead of doing anything. Sigh.

I really want to actually develop my style eventually, but for now, I'm completely ignoring thoughts about that. So, if you see a trending style here--it's probably not permanent. I haven't even scratched the sorta stuff I'd LIKE to do just yet; I'm still focusing on my basics and pushing myself further as an artist.

Anyway; I finished another still life! Well, sorta. The knife and the table are not as nice as I'd like, but I haven't slept in a day and it was REALLY starting to wear on me by that point.

I'm really kinda excited about what this means for me as an artist. I'd like to be able to do portraits and not have them look...awful. Faces just don't make sense to me; it's a lot easier to think of basic shapes in 3D, you know? I guess this stuff just...takes time, haha.

Time: 3 hours or so.

EDIT: I forgot the shade under the cloth hahahahaha;;;;;

Sorry the eggs are a bit of a mess, too. Didn't notice they were that "off" compared to the rest of the picture.

I might one day redo this or something, but for now...nah. I need to do another still life focused on form. Maybe I'll do some sort of super textured object. Something.

sketches for today
very loose and freehand, although i used different figure drawing pictures to do them. basically adjusted the bean study, I guess.
time: less then an hour. at least i drew? i've been having trouble staying even slightly motivated. i'm going in for psychiatric care shortly, and every day until then i seem to be getting worse.

I've been having real trouble drawing lately because I've been doing so bad mentally. I decided to just go ahead and do a mod on "master studies"; basically, style studies. I don't do these blindly; I'm trying to understand what goes through this artists' (by the name of Riko, I think; the name for the doujin is RPPP and it's a Batman/Robin trap comic) mind when they draw in the way they do. It's actually quite valuable. Only one of these sketches has no reference and isn't porn, and I'll explain more about each sketch below. Also, I didn't ever trace.
This is in order of when I did it, so
1: Initially, I was going to do a study of an entire doujin page, but change the hair and facial features to have it be fan art. Then, I decided to JUST do faces. Eventually, I decided to do just a few shots I liked. This was when I still wanted to do just face, and because it was the first (and probably the hardest), I took the longest time with it (hour and fifteen, just about). It reminded me a lot of doing stuff sort of like this in middle school, but for fun and mostly just because I liked the art. It always impressed me when I could make it look pretty accurate, and contrary to what you might think, I DID actually learn something--my observation skills increased. I just couldn't think of it as a form or with weight, since the concepts were foreign to me.
2: This wasn't done with a reference and was the shortest to do (half an hour), but while I drew the last 3, I listened to Will Terrell talk about being a better artist and wanted to try my hand at a concept that I'm still struggling to understand; the language of shapes, and how to design a character based on them. If I had to draw Percy (this is a really Western, crude imitation of him), I'd want to focus on spheres and cones interlocking. You can do this for Eastern art too, but I'm still trying to understand it (it's a very distant skill, much like composition), so I stuck with Western stuff.
3: The first panel I did involving sex and "full body". This one took about forty five to an hour, I think. I really enjoyed doing the clothing, and while initially drawing the figure was really difficult to start (you can build on the sketch later as I remember with the second, but where one starts when they begin to detail and haven't done this before is...strange). Quite pleased with the "lineart" here.
4: The last one. It took a slightly shorter amount of time to do then the 3rd, but more then the 2nd, so I'd say...forty minutes or so. I think this is weaker overall then the 3rd, but I REALLY liked drawing the torso once I came to better understand it. It has a lot of "mock anatomy"; it's fairly accurate outside of being exaggerated, but it's not very detailed. This comes from understanding forms at a deep level moreso then anatomy itself; you could only have a very baseline understanding, but layering it on top of form and carefully crafted style + lineart is much much MUCH more important. Anatomy really, really isn't the end all be all. Anyway, I liked the gesture of this panel, so I was happy to draw it.
Overall today was "okay" productive. I should've been able to pump out three to five more of these things, but getting myself to draw was SUCH a chore. Hope you enjoyed reading my ramblings about it.

I tried to do more then one of these, but I only got through a half of one more without planning it properly and had to keep redoing stuff, so I'm just gonna look at it with fresh eye tomorrow. After doing a few more of these, and then possibly taking some of them and practicing my line work on FireAlpaca or Kirita, I plan to do some food studies because I've found I, uh...really enjoy food in erotica >.>

(Drawing food is super fun, too. I've done two finished illustrations of food. Dunno if I'll ever incorporate it into my career on a larger scale, but I might end up doing a set of erotic food illustrations or something way down the line. If you like watching people eat, by the way, I highly recommend Yuka Kinoshita's stuff. In that video, she's eating 7 pounds of beefstake on a bowl of rice. She's really adorable, and although I DO like sexual food stuff, I mostly watch her because she's very...soothing. I guess it's a sort of ASMR response on my end.

Anyway, this is what I've done. Trying to upload sketches more often so I feel like I'm improving when I look back; presenting only my best stuff feels a little lacking and I want to eventually have a good 14 pages of old stuff to look through and reminisce on. Obviously, because this is still JUST style study, it's basically a cleaned sketch; not full linework or super accurate proportions (since I'm focusing on JUST the form of the character and the way the mangaka directs a pose like this).

Enjoy.
