Subject title: Fi_le's sketchbook

Hi Mr.Steeliebob, thanks for stoppin' by! It's interesting that you described it as "scribble style" whereas for me it's just kind of how I do it. Is that a good or a bad thing? :b

Hi Plumbum, I'm glad you took the advice with the tomatoes to heart! For the images of people, I have a super sophisticated method: I type random first names into Bing ;) I know, I know, it's not very professional but it works...

And these are what I did during the week:
Ohne Titel-128_alt.png

This is a study of a painting by RossDraws, whose videos I honestly don't like too much. Still, the original painting is really awesome! I don't know if I can link to it because I bet it's like copyrighted. I've never understood copyright. Back the topic at hand, I think I should mention that maybe I'm not finished yet because it's actually pretty far from the original.

Ohne Titel-129_alt.png

I have a bit of a question for you guys: Is any of the stuff I do here creative or unique? Because I feel like it really isn't at all! I mean, I give it my all, but I always feel like I've seen it somewhere...

Ohne Titel-129_alt2.png

Funny faces! Real humdinger to paint :)

And that's it again. Have a nice week!

I think somehow you draw from your imagination you kinda lost for what you want suppose to do. Although it is good thing to copy from master painting or photo to study how it work, you still need to know what exactly you learn from copying. Like how exact the light works, how soft edge and hard edge work, etc. Try learn more on observation as you draw. It will help you to create something creative and unique later on your drawing :)

don't worry to much about being super unique or anything. I think I see some of your own handwriting in there.
Just focus on learning new things and refining old things you already know.
People have been saying I have an own style but I can't see it. So I guess it's just how it is and will develop over time.
More like an accumulation of the techniques, shape language, color sense etc. that works for you than anything else.

Also your Ross study looks really nice. :)

Heyo (:

@Steeliebob Really, you don't notice your style? Man, that's very hard to believe! I mean, you have one of the most distinct styles in this forum dude! Woah, super interesting... it's very good that you told me, I did not see that one coming at all. In any case, you're definitely right that I shouldn't worry too much about that. Thanks for the compliment about the RossDraws study :)

@cicakkia I'm grateful for the tips! I'm not completely sure what the details mean, but I'll still try to consider it of course.

I have some news! I'm working on an illustration for a children's book now that a relative of mine wrote. It's about a snail who is on her last journey to a sunny mountain. Here is the first page:

I hope I'm not derailing into full force anime. Quick, someone hand me another Rembrandt painting!

Draw anime if that what you like. Really depends on where you want to go with your art. I just hope you don't feel guilty for drawing what you like.
The skull looks fine to me in the context of what you draw.

Dont worry, Rembrandt would probably paint anime as well if it had existed ;) Very cool Mononoke piece!

Back I am, drawings I have got with me.

Also, hi Keane, thanks for leaving your thoughts. What I meant is that it's sort of really seductive just to use all the anime shortcuts for drawing various things; I don't feel guilty at all for liking all the animu good stuff, although I appreciate a lot that you were worried about little old me!

Ah, Wb, now I want to see anime oil paintings. There have to be anime oil paintings, right? If not, guess who's picking up oil painting.

Thanks, wheeler and welcome to my sketchbook! I'd encourage everyone else to paint movie screencaps, too, it's so fun.

Lastly, oh my gosh LK you got to watch Princess Mononoke if you haven't already, it's the damn best. What also should interest you since I've heard you do this kind of stuff as well is this:

I have a website now! Let this be a warning to you not program your own, ask someone who actually knows stuff. It's quite tedious! Anyways, you can find it EDIT: Website under construction now, not available at the moment. Sorry for the letdown, folks.. I'd love to hear from all the technical problems that occur visiting the site, so please tell me all about 'em!

I don't like this at all, but I'm going to post it anyways. It's a study of a screencap from Metal Gear Solid V; like I said though, I didn't do Big Boss justice at all! Any tips are most welcome.

Have a nice day, folks.

To be honest, its a really weird website that you have there.
The "sample"-function seems to not really work, at least on my computer. I get pictures on the corners of the screen, so that I cant really see them.

Hi folks, here I am again.

@LK Ah, alright. Actually from how you descibed it, it seems like the site worked! Well, apparently it just has confusing design.

Oh, I just realized I forgot to adress this comment:

nooblearn wrote:how do you make so many loose pictures that look good? if i do that it looks like shit

, which first of all I'm very thankful for, my ego does like this one a lot. Sadly, I don't really have an answer except for being very aware of shape design and the big picture. Try painting a lot of things and a lot of different things and see what makes them distinct.
What I find a bit suspicious in your comment though is that it seems self-depricating - a really bad habit to be in. I've done this myself in the past and found out it doesn't get you anywhere (except for in the bedroom, but that's a whole different story.)

However, I've got some more stuff!

I might even have asked that before in the past, i cant remember,
but do you have any particular goals?
Because even if your stuff look very cool, it seems so random to me.
I cant even track if youre making progress.
But a lot of it is pretty cool of course! :)
